Kedai Kopi Wing Hup Lee 永合利 is a casual café tucked away on the first floor of Villa Permai in Sandakan, offering a nostalgic taste of traditional local pastries and comforting kopitiam staples. The vibe here leans towards old-school simplicity, drawing in locals looking for familiar flavors rather than modern café aesthetics.

This spot is especially known for its selection of freshly made egg tarts and a quirky variety of tarts like the UFO tart and Matcha Cow Dung Tart, alongside a range of kuih (local bite-sized cakes) that echo the tastes of yesteryear. The snacks are what most visitors come here for—a light afternoon treat with tea or coffee.

Locals tend to drop by mid-afternoon around 3pm, perfect timing to enjoy their soft, spongy egg tarts paired with a cup of green tea or the house specialty drinks. The menu also features hearty options like the dry tossed noodles (Gohlaomee 干捞面) and curry mee, which locals appreciate for their wok hei aroma and homely flavor. These dishes add a more filling choice for those stopping in for a casual meal rather than just snacks.

The atmosphere is simple and unpretentious, with a focus on the food rather than décor. Service is friendly and personal, often run by the family or long-time staff, adding to the laid-back and familiar environment. It’s a cash-only operation, and pricing can occasionally raise eyebrows, so it’s worth checking the bill carefully.

This café suits visitors who enjoy down-to-earth local flavors and an old-school kopitiam feel without the fuss. It’s a comfortable spot for light bites and familiar tastes that remind you of traditional Sandakan home cooking. Ideal for afternoon tea or a modest meal, especially if you’re curious about local pastries and want a straightforward, approachable café experience.

Old school, I don’t know how I managed to google this shop when I went to Sandakan recently with my aunt. Their breads, kuihs are home made, my aunty said it was nice, I think it gives me the old school taste - the taste was okay, not that really fantastic but it’s freshly made.

22.12.2023 Egg tarts 2.20 x2 quite delicious Cincau 3.5 not recommended Total 7.90 Did not manage to try their UFO tart as I arrived late at 2pm Cash only. Remember to check the price before payment if it is the older lady boss who is in charge (almost overcharged me before a younger lady boss rectified it)

I like their egg tart (so soft in the middle) and UFO ( UFO is a very sweet pastry) because both are not too sweet. The egg tart with a thin crust …. Different from others. It taste very good when just come out from oven and taste slightly different if not fresh from oven but still acceptable.
